Unfinished chemistry post :]

Title:

* Chromatography and Stuff

Statement of the Problem:

* We are doing a lab to determine how the polarity of chromatography paper takes the various pigments of ink and spreads it out over a given area of the chromatography paper.
* Before this lab we had never heard of “Chromatography paper” nor do we know what it will do, other then the little bit we learned about it before we preformed our lab.

Hypothesis:

* We predict that the more complex solutions such as Hexane or Isopropyl will do the best job at spacing out the pigments.

Materials:

* Goggles, aprons, books, paper, pencil, hexane, H2O, Isopropyl, 24 well thing, chromatography paper,

* The liquids being used let off a scent that you cant smell. But can feel :]

Procedure:

* First off we took the “24 Well Thinger” and we filled 4 of the Wells with H2O, Isopropyl, Hexane, and finally Methanol. We then cut 4 strips of “Chromatography paper

* Your procedure should be written so that anyone else could repeat the experiment.

Results (Data):

* This section should include any data tables, observations, or additional notes you make during the lab.
* You may scan a separate sheet(s) if necessary.
* All tables, graphs and charts should be labeled appropriately

*digital photography and scanned images of notebooks with explanations

Conclusions:

* Accept or reject your hypothesis.
* EXPLAIN why you accepted or rejected your hypothesis using data from the lab.
* Includ
e a summary of the data - averages, highest, lowest..etc to help the reader understand your results
* List one thing you learned and describe how it applies to a real-life situation.
*Discuss possible errors that could have occurred in the collection of the data

*answer discussion questions

  4. you should probably put a picture of your lab and the notes that you took during the lab. You should also try to use descriptive words when writing and not use words such as thinger and stuff.

  5. Haha..this is good!!
    Nice work!!
    We'd really like to see some photographs!!
    This is one lab that we, as a group, enjoyed reading. It kept us interested the whole time.
    We can't wait to see the final project.
    One more thing, a better conclusion would sum this lab up perfectly.
    Don't short yourselves with a bad conclusion, go in depth and really give it a good finish.
    Thanks for putting some effort into this though.
    :)

  7. Conclusion? Finishing it would give us a better understanding what you were trying to figure out in the lab report, but nice work with the other information.
